Modelled Noise Sources
dBSea includes built-in noise source models that can generate source spectra based on physical parameters, rather than requiring measured or manually entered levels.
Vessel Noise (JOMOPANS)
dBSea implements the JOMOPANS-ECHO vessel noise model for predicting underwater noise from ships. This model calculates source levels based on vessel type, speed, and length.
Using the Vessel Noise Model
- On the Sources page, click Source Models
- Select the Vessels tab
- Enter the vessel parameters:
- Vessel type - Select from the available vessel categories
- Speed (knots) - Vessel speed through water
- Length (m) - Vessel length
- The predicted spectrum is displayed in the chart
- Click OK to apply the spectrum to the current source
Model Output
The model produces 1/3 octave band source levels in dB re 1 µPa m. These can be used directly as the source spectrum for propagation modeling.
